Twitter Cards enhance how your content appears when shared on Twitter/X. Instead of a plain link, Cards display rich previews with images, titles, and descriptions that drive more engagement and clicks.
Card Types Explained
Twitter supports different card formats for various content:
- Summary Card - Small image with title and description, ideal for articles
- Summary Large Image - Prominent image above title, best for visual content
- App Card - Mobile app promotion with install button
- Player Card - Embedded audio/video player
Required Meta Tags
Basic Twitter Card implementation needs these tags: twitter:card (card type), twitter:title, twitter:description, and twitter:image. Add twitter:site for your Twitter handle and twitter:creator for the content author.
Image Guidelines
For Summary Cards, use images at least 144x144 pixels (up to 4096x4096). For Large Image Cards, use 300x157 minimum, ideally 1200x628 pixels. Images must be under 5MB as JPG, PNG, WEBP, or GIF.
Twitter vs Open Graph
Twitter Cards use separate meta tags from Open Graph, but Twitter will fall back to OG tags if Twitter-specific tags are missing. For optimal control, include both sets. Our generator creates Twitter-specific tags for best results.
Validating Your Cards
Use Twitter's Card Validator to preview how your cards will appear and troubleshoot issues. Cards are cached, so after making changes you may need to recrawl the URL using the validator.
